Celebrate National Book Lovers Day!
SouthCoast Hidden Gems for the Local Bookworm
“Bookshops are dreams built of wood and paper. They are time travel and escape and knowledge and power. They are, simply put, the best of places.”
– Jen Campbell
August 9th is National Book Lovers Day, a day dedicated to all those who love to read. National Book Lovers Day encourages you to take a much-needed break, grab a good book, find a calm spot in your home, at a park, or the beach, and read the day away.
Research shows that the benefits of reading are highly beneficial. Reading increases your vocabulary and comprehension of words and phrases. It also reduces stress, can lower your blood pressure and heart rate, and improves brain connectivity.
We can all agree that time gets in the way of our everyday lives, but we have to remember to take care of ourselves- especially our minds. Reading can be light and casual, or maybe it’s something you carve out blocks of your week for. Regardless, reading doesn’t have to be costly and complicated and can be done on your terms- anywhere, at any time.
If you’re looking for a new (or gently used) read, here are some of our favorite little hidden gems in the SouthCoast area. Be sure to check them out in person and help keep small businesses in our area alive!
